Hungarian History:
Focus Question: How has Hungary's History impacted the people of Hungary today?
The history of Hungary affects Hungarians today in many ways. One way is when Hungary, and the other allied powers signed the “Treaty of Trianon” on June 4th, 1920 in Versailles, France. Because of that Treaty, Hungary lost 71% of its land and territory, after their defeat during World War I. This still affects Hungary today, because about half of Hungarians still think back to the treaty and are concerned by it, and the other half believe that “the past is the past” and they should forget about. This has drastically split Hungary apart politically, socially and culturally.
